Naama University: Academic Center Elevated to University Status

Naama, Algeria – January 4, 2026 – The University Center “Salehi Ahmed” in Naama has officially been upgraded to a university, marking a significant step in Algeria’s higher education development. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Badari, presided over the inauguration ceremony held today in Naama.

The elevation of the center to university status was formalized through Executive Decree No. 25-265, dated October 7, 2025. During an inspection visit to the newly established university, Minister Badari highlighted that the institution comprises seven faculties and an institute dedicated to pastoral agriculture. He emphasized that this upgrade reflects the Algerian government’s vision of positioning universities as engines for achieving development goals and strengthening their economic role.

“The new economic direction is becoming a tangible reality within this academic institution,” stated Minister Badari, attributing this progress to the state’s support for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This support aims to translate the knowledge of students and researchers into practical projects that contribute to the exploitation of agricultural, pastoral, and tourism potentials.

Badari stressed the importance of bolstering the pedagogical capabilities of Naama University to meet the region’s specific needs. He advocated for the creation of value-added specializations that address the economic, developmental, social, and environmental requirements of the region. The Minister also commended the pivotal role of startup incubators, innovation labs, and entrepreneurship development centers in valorizing scientific research results and connecting the university with its economic and social environment.

This upgrade is expected to boost research and innovation in the region, contributing to local and national development initiatives. The university is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Naama and Algeria.
