Air Algérie Adds New Airbus to Fleet Modernization Program

Algiers, January 4, 2026 – Air Algérie has taken delivery of its second aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet renewal and expansion program. The new aircraft, an Airbus A330-900neo, arrived at Houari Boumediene International Airport on Sunday.

Named ‘Gara Djebilet,’ this is the second A330-900neo to join the national airline’s fleet. The first, named ‘November 54,’ was delivered last November. These aircraft are specifically designated for long-haul routes, an area Air Algérie is actively strengthening through the launch and reinforcement of services to destinations including Canada, China, and South Africa.

The Airbus A330-900neo boasts a capacity of over 300 passengers across various cabin classes. Importantly, it offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions compared to previous generations. Furthermore, it is equipped with modern entertainment systems, including Wi-Fi connectivity.

With this latest addition, Air Algérie’s fleet now totals 56 aircraft. This is in addition to the 15 aircraft operated by Air Algérie’s domestic subsidiary. Further expansion of the fleet is anticipated in the coming years.

This acquisition is part of the national carrier’s fleet renewal and expansion program, launched in 2023. The program initially included orders for eight Boeing 737 MAX-9 aircraft and eight Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, before an upward revision of the A330neo order to ten. The plan also involves the acquisition of 16 ATR 72-600 aircraft to bolster the domestic air transport network.

These measures align with Air Algérie’s strategic plan extending to 2035, which includes further acquisitions to meet the growing demand for air travel both domestically and internationally.
