FLN Calls for Vigilance Amidst Fuel Price, Traffic Law Debate

Algiers, January 4, 2026 – The National Liberation Front (FLN) has urged Algerian citizens and social partners to exercise vigilance and responsibility in the face of ongoing debate surrounding the proposed traffic law and fuel prices. The party cautioned against succumbing to rumors that aim to destabilize the nation.

In a statement released today, the FLN emphasized that the new traffic law is not intended to burden ordinary citizens. Instead, it seeks to curb the alarming rate of road accidents, which claim over 5,000 lives annually. The party clarified that the stringent penalties, including imprisonment, are specifically targeted at severe cases, such as causing fatal accidents under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The FLN reassured the public that the law remains a draft under review by the Council of the Nation. It is open for further refinement and amendment through a joint committee, ensuring a balanced and equitable legal text. Regarding concerns about fuel prices, the FLN stated that the increase is limited and minor, responding to demands from gas station owners to ensure a profit margin that sustains their services.

The party underscored that fuel prices in Algeria remain among the lowest globally, thanks to substantial state subsidies. It strongly cautioned against attempts to exploit these issues to undermine national stability, urging unions to prioritize dialogue and avoid hasty statements that could harm the national interest. The FLN commended the consultative meetings between the Ministry of Interior and social partners, viewing them as the optimal way to address professional concerns away from malicious maneuvers.

The FLN reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Algeria’s stability and progress, calling on all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to address any legitimate concerns related to the proposed legislation and economic policies. The party emphasized the importance of unity and national cohesion in overcoming challenges and ensuring a prosperous future for all Algerians. The FLN urges all citizens to remain alert to potential attempts to sow discord and undermine the country’s hard-earned stability.
