Hajj 2026: Pilgrims Must Disclose Medical Conditions

Algiers – Aspiring pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj season are now required to strictly adhere to new health regulations, including mandatory disclosure of pre-existing medical conditions and adherence to vaccination protocols. The announcement comes as part of efforts to ensure a safe and healthy pilgrimage experience for all Algerian participants.

Dr. Mahmoud Dahman, head of the Algerian medical delegation for the 1447 AH/2026 Hajj season, emphasized the importance of accurate and honest declarations regarding the health status of all applicants. He stated that compliance with approved medical examinations is crucial, aligning with the updated health requirements mandated by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

Speaking at an awareness day organized by the National Office for Hajj and Umrah in Algiers, Dr. Dahman urged prospective pilgrims to visit designated medical committees located in health centers across all 58 provinces. These committees will conduct necessary examinations and facilitate the declaration of any physical or psychological ailments.

“Adherence to the health declaration is a fundamental requirement this season,” Dr. Dahman warned. He stressed that concealing any illness listed in the official guidelines could lead to disqualification from performing Hajj, a measure designed to protect the health and safety of both the individual pilgrim and the entire delegation.

The mandatory vaccination list includes the meningitis vaccine, now a prerequisite for all pilgrims except those who have performed Umrah within the last five years. Furthermore, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for pilgrims aged 65 and over.

Specific health conditions requiring declaration include kidney failure requiring dialysis, advanced heart failure, chronic lung diseases requiring oxygen, advanced liver cirrhosis, and severe neurological or psychological disorders. The list also encompasses senility accompanied by dementia, advanced or high-risk pregnancy, active infectious diseases, and active cancer or conditions undergoing intensive treatment.

These measures, according to Dr. Dahman, are vital to guaranteeing a healthy and secure Hajj season, enabling Algerian pilgrims to perform their religious duties under optimal conditions and minimizing the risk of health emergencies.
