Trade Ministry Reassures Merchants on Electronic Payment Devices

The Ministry of Trade has offered assurances to Algerian merchants regarding the use of electronic payment terminals (TPE), following discussions with the General Union of Algerian Traders and Craftsmen (UGCAA). The ministry’s intervention aims to address concerns and facilitate the broader adoption of digital payment methods across the country.

According to a statement released by the UGCAA, the Minister of Trade received the Secretary-General of the union, accompanied by a delegation, to discuss recent developments in the national market and their impact on trade and services. Key among the topics was the implementation of electronic payment systems and addressing the anxieties of traders, craftsmen, economic operators, and transporters.

The UGCAA lauded the ministry’s responsiveness and transparency during the discussions, emphasizing the shared commitment to stabilizing the national market, improving supply chains, and protecting consumer purchasing power while safeguarding the interests of professionals. The union expressed satisfaction with the ministry’s understanding of the challenges faced by its members.

Crucially, the UGCAA reassured all traders, economic operators, service providers, and transporters that the situation is under control and urged them to continue their activities responsibly. The union specifically addressed rumors circulating on social media suggesting that the Ministry of Trade intends to impose fines of 50,000 Algerian dinars on any merchant refusing to use TPE devices. The UGCAA firmly stated that these rumors are currently unfounded.

The UGCAA reiterated its commitment to maintaining open communication channels with the Ministry of Trade, emphasizing its ongoing role in supporting traders and economic operators, advocating for their legitimate concerns, and conveying their demands to the relevant authorities through constructive dialogue in the service of the national interest.
