“Nation’s Shield” Takes Control of Al-Mahra Camps, Al-Zubaidi Heads to Riyadh

Forces belonging to the “Nation’s Shield” have reportedly taken control of all military camps in Al-Mahra Governorate, according to local authorities. This development comes as tensions remain high in eastern Yemen. Simultaneously, reports indicate that Aidarus al-Zubaidi, the head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), is leading a delegation to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The “Nation’s Shield” media center stated that its forces are continuing operations to combat what they described as mercenaries, bandits, and subversive elements in the Hadramaut and Al-Mahra governorates. The group’s increased presence follows recent clashes with STC forces.

Life in Al-Mukalla, the capital of Hadramaut, is reportedly returning to normal after the withdrawal of STC forces and the subsequent control by “Nation’s Shield” units. Many shops have reopened, and traffic is gradually increasing on the city’s streets.

Hadramaut Governor Salem al-Khanbashi stated that local authorities have achieved a significant political success by removing the STC from the governorate. He added that the immediate political priority is to work with all political components in the region to unify their ranks.

Al-Zubaidi’s trip to Riyadh follows an invitation from Saudi Arabia for dialogue aimed at ending the recent military escalation. The STC welcomed the Saudi initiative, viewing it as an opportunity for serious discussions to protect the future of southern Yemen and ensure its security and stability. The Saudi Foreign Ministry has called on all southern Yemeni factions to participate in a conference hosted by the Kingdom, at the request of Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad al-Alimi, to develop a comprehensive vision for just solutions to the southern issue. The outcome of Al-Zubaidi’s visit could have significant implications for the future of Yemen’s southern regions. Analysts are closely watching the developments.
