Heavy Snow and Torrential Rain Hit Several Algerian Regions

DZWatch Exclusive: Several regions across Algeria are experiencing heavy rainfall and significant snowfall, according to weather reports. The adverse conditions are expected to persist, with some areas potentially receiving over 70mm of rainfall.

A special weather advisory indicates that the current weather pattern will continue until 6:00 AM Wednesday. The regions most affected by heavy, localized rainfall include Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Oran, Mostaganem, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Mascara, Ain Defla, Blida, Medea, and Bouira. Further inland, the wilayas of M’Sila, Djelfa, Laghouat, Ghardaia, El Menia, Timimoun, El Bayadh, Naama, and Bechar can expect thundery showers to continue until midday today.

Higher elevations are experiencing substantial snowfall. Areas above 800 meters are seeing accumulations of up to 15cm, with some locations like Chrea, Djurdjura, Babors, and Ouarsenis potentially exceeding 25cm. This heavy snowfall is expected to continue from midday Tuesday until midday Wednesday. The wilayas impacted by this snowfall include Tlemcen, Naama, El Bayadh, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tiaret, Saida, Mascara, Tissemsilt, Ain Defla, Medea, Blida, Tipaza, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’Sila, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Jijel, Bejaia, and Setif.

Authorities have also issued a warning for heavy snowfall in areas above 900 meters. These regions could see accumulations of up to 10cm starting from 11:00 PM Tuesday until midday Wednesday. The affected wilayas include Mila, Constantine, Skikda, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, Khenchela, and Tebessa.
