Algiers – The General Secretary of the General Union of Algerian Traders and Artisans (UGCAA), Essam Bedrissi, has categorically denied rumors circulating online regarding an impending strike by merchants. He affirmed that Algerian markets are operating normally and that these reports are baseless.
Speaking at a press conference held Tuesday, Bedrissi attributed the propagation of these false calls to what he described as “irresponsible parties.” He stated that their aim is to destabilize the national market and disrupt both traders and consumers, particularly during a sensitive period that requires concerted efforts to maintain regular supplies.
Bedrissi emphasized that these misleading campaigns will not succeed in the face of the awareness of traders and their understanding of their national responsibilities. He stressed that wholesale and retail markets, especially those related to food, vegetables, and fruits, are operating normally throughout the country without any disruptions.
The General Secretary also confirmed that the UGCAA is continuing to work and coordinate with the government and the Ministry of Trade to find practical and realistic solutions to address various challenges, ensuring market stability and protecting the purchasing power of citizens.
Bedrissi concluded by urging traders not to be swayed by rumors and to exercise responsibility. He affirmed that the Union will remain in constant communication with public authorities to serve the national economy and maintain the smooth functioning of commercial activity. “The Algerian market is resilient,” he added.
