A video circulating on social media depicts United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) personnel apparently confronting an Israeli drone in the Marjayoun area of southern Lebanon. The footage shows a UNIFIL soldier in Mays al-Jabal, Lebanon, brandishing what appeared to be an unfamiliar weapon as an Israeli drone approached the UN peacekeeping force’s position.
The video sparked considerable discussion, with observers noting UNIFIL forces aiming a device skyward. DZWatch has investigated the device to determine its nature and purpose.
The incident also drew the attention of Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, who reposted the video on social media. He commented that UNIFIL’s mandate in Lebanon is set to expire at the end of the year and that the force should prioritize disarming Hezbollah rather than attempting to intercept Israeli aircraft.
Weapon Identification: Our investigation reveals the weapon to be a NEROD RF drone jamming gun. This device is specifically designed to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by disrupting their control and navigation systems.
The NEROD RF is manufactured by MC2 Technologies, a French company specializing in jamming guns and microwave technology. Documentation from the French military indicates that this anti-drone weapon has been deployed in Lebanon as part of the operational records of the 40th Artillery Regiment, operating under the UNIFIL mandate.
A January 2024 bulletin from the Artillery and Air Defense Forces Association of the French Army noted that anti-aircraft artillery units in the area monitor dozens of drones daily, the majority of which are reportedly Israeli.
Under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, UNIFIL has the right to self-defense and to protect its positions.
This incident follows a previous event in late October 2025, when the Israeli military announced that it had downed a drone.
