Severe Cold Wave Grips Several Algerian Provinces

Algiers – A harsh cold wave is expected to sweep across several inland provinces of Algeria, prompting warnings from the National Meteorological Office. The agency forecasts extremely low temperatures, particularly during the early morning and evening hours.

A weather alert issued today indicates that the cold wave will affect the southern regions of Tlemcen, Naama, northern El Bayadh, northern Laghouat, northern Djelfa, Batna, and northern Khenchela. The advisory remains in effect throughout Wednesday.

According to the meteorological office, maximum temperatures are predicted to range between 4 and 6 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures could plummet to as low as -5 degrees Celsius, significantly increasing the risk of frost formation in certain areas.

Authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution, especially motorists and farmers. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the extreme cold. This includes ensuring adequate heating in homes, dressing warmly in layers, and protecting vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children.

Farmers are particularly advised to take steps to protect livestock and crops from frost damage. Motorists are urged to drive carefully, as icy road conditions are possible, especially during the early morning hours. The National Meteorological Office continues to monitor the situation and will issue further updates as needed.
