Severe Weather Disrupts Several Regions; Rescue Operations Underway

January 7, 2026 – Unfavorable weather conditions have impacted several regions across the nation, prompting intervention from civil protection services. Heavy rainfall and snowfall have caused disruptions, requiring rescue and assistance operations.

The General Directorate of Civil Protection reported that, as of 10:00 PM last night, significant interventions were carried out in response to the weather’s impact. In the wilaya of Mostaganem, specifically in the commune of Tadless, emergency teams responded to flooding, pumping out accumulated water from three ground-level residences in the Douar Belhadri area.

Further interventions were required in the commune of Achacha, where rainwater was removed from a ground-level dwelling. A family of nine was safely evacuated from the premises; no injuries were reported.

In the wilaya of Sidi Bel Abbes, within the commune of Boukhnefis, civil protection units addressed water accumulation in four houses located in the 119-unit residential area. Resources were deployed to pump out the water and mitigate further damage.

Meanwhile, in the Bologhine area of Algiers, a tree fell onto a makeshift house in the Tabash street, El Yanaieb neighborhood, causing the collapse of a wall and part of the roof. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this incident.

In the wilaya of Relizane, civil protection teams were mobilized to drain accumulated rainwater from the El Diansi El Toub tunnel, ensuring safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians.

The wilaya of Tiaret faced challenges due to heavy snowfall. Emergency services successfully freed 32 vehicles trapped in the snow in the Ghallal and Ain Kassema regions. Additionally, 13 cars and buses, without passengers, were recovered. In Ain Kermes, five cars were freed from the snow, while in Sougueur, nine vehicles were freed near the Bouakkaz farm.
