Civil Protection Deploys Special Unit for Severe Weather in Medea

Medea, January 7, 2026 – The Civil Protection Directorate in the Medea province has announced the deployment of a specialized operational and security unit to monitor and respond to the predicted severe weather conditions across the region. This initiative aims to ensure rapid and effective intervention in various incidents, particularly those related to emergency medical assistance, evacuations, and road accidents throughout the province’s road network.

According to a statement released by the Civil Protection services, this deployment is a direct response to weather advisories indicating potential snowfall across the Medea province. The focus will be on particularly vulnerable areas known to be significantly impacted by adverse weather conditions. These include the Ben Chicao area on the North-South highway, Si El Mahdjoub, Draag, Ain Boucif, and the municipality of Medea itself.

The Civil Protection Directorate urges citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel, especially on mountain roads. The public is advised to strictly adhere to traffic safety regulations, including reducing speed, maintaining safe following distances, and ensuring their vehicles are in optimal condition and equipped with the necessary safety equipment. Furthermore, citizens are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring official weather forecasts.

In addition to the dangers posed by the weather, the Civil Protection Directorate reminds residents of the serious risks associated with carbon monoxide poisoning, particularly during the winter months. They strongly advise daily ventilation of homes, ensuring ventilation openings are not blocked, regular inspection and maintenance of heating appliances and water heaters, and avoiding the use of heating appliances in enclosed spaces or while sleeping. Finally, they stress the importance of verifying the integrity of gas exhaust flues and ensuring they are free from blockages.

The Civil Protection services remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to any emergencies arising from the anticipated severe weather.
