Algeria United, Amazigh Language Integral to Identity: Speaker

Algiers, January 9, 2026 – The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Brahim Boughali, affirmed today that Algeria is unified and the Amazigh language is an integral part of the nation’s identity. He made the remarks during the launch of a train dedicated to transporting participants to the national celebration of Yennayer, the Amazigh New Year 2976.

Boughali emphasized the lower house of parliament’s commitment to promoting the Amazigh language. He stated, “The People’s National Assembly will support the promotion of the Amazigh language by including it in its activities and communication and cultural programs.”

He further noted that this step aims to consolidate the institutional presence of the Amazigh language and encourage its use within the parliamentary sphere. Boughali highlighted the legislative institution’s increased openness to the various components of the national identity.

The Speaker asserted that commemorating Yennayer reflects the firmly established place of the Amazigh language within the constituents of Algerian national identity. He stressed that promoting the Amazigh language embodies the sincere political will of the state, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Boughali commended the efforts of the High Commission for Amazighity in serving the Amazigh language and culture. He also expressed his appreciation for all the creators and researchers who contribute to enriching the national cultural landscape.

In conclusion, Boughali stated that these efforts ensure the preservation and protection of the historical memory of the Algerian nation.
