Yemen’s Shifting Control: A New Map Emerges

Significant developments on the ground in Yemen have dramatically reshaped the territorial control landscape. Following a period where the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and affiliated military formations held sway over a considerable portion of the country, recent events have triggered a major power shift.

These changes culminated in the STC announcing its dissolution and the subsequent transfer of numerous camps and strategic sites to the “Shield of the Nation” forces. This handover spans from Aden to Al Mahrah, the easternmost governorate, and occurred in coordination with military units previously aligned with the STC.

The current control map indicates that the Yemeni government and its associated forces now control over 60% of the country’s territory. This includes the entirety of Yemen’s southern governorates, along with portions of Marib and Taiz.

The Houthi group maintains control over approximately 33% of Yemen, with their presence concentrated primarily in the northern governorates. Meanwhile, forces loyal to Tariq Saleh, known as the “Guardians of the Republic,” are positioned along the western coast.

The evolving situation in Yemen continues to be closely monitored as these shifts impact the ongoing conflict and the prospects for a lasting peace. Further analysis will be provided as the situation unfolds.
