Massive Fireworks Haul Seized in Algiers Operation

Algiers, January 11, 2026 – A significant operation by Algiers police has resulted in the seizure of over three million units of fireworks and pyrotechnic devices. The operation, conducted by officers from the 3rd Judicial Police District of Algiers (El Biar), targeted the illegal smuggling, possession, storage, and sale of fireworks.

According to a statement released by the National Security services, the operation led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the illicit trade. The seized cache included a staggering 3,313,328 individual fireworks and firecrackers.

The scale of this seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the illegal distribution of fireworks, particularly those that pose a safety risk to the public. Authorities have consistently warned against the dangers associated with unregulated fireworks, citing potential for serious injuries and property damage.

Following the completion of legal procedures, the two suspects were presented before the territorially competent public prosecutor. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as the case progresses.

This operation represents a considerable success in the fight against illegal fireworks trafficking in the Algiers region. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in their efforts to ensure public safety and prevent the unlawful distribution of these potentially hazardous materials.
