Cabinet Meeting Focuses on Digitalization, Agriculture Strategy

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presided over a Council of Ministers meeting today, addressing key issues including the progress of digitalization efforts, the 2026 roadmap for the agricultural sector, and the monitoring of planting for the 2025-2026 season.

Following the presentation of the agenda and a report on government activities over the past two weeks by the Prime Minister, President Tebboune issued directives and instructions on the aforementioned topics.

Regarding the digitalization report, the President commended the significant advancements made in digitizing information and data across all sectors. He emphasized the importance of connecting and analyzing this data to identify and address shortcomings effectively. President Tebboune instructed all government members to establish technical teams within their respective departments. These teams will be responsible for daily updates to the national digital database, ensuring accurate and timely information for relevant agencies.

Concerning the 2026 agricultural roadmap, President Tebboune stressed the need to continue organizing the sector and prioritize increasing per-hectare production. He directed the government to allocate resources and create favorable conditions to boost grain production, underscoring the commitment to modernizing this strategic sector. The President emphasized the importance of adopting scientific methods throughout all stages of agriculture, guided by a comprehensive strategy involving experts and agricultural engineers. He also highlighted the need to consider seed quality and the specific characteristics of each region and its soil.

Furthermore, President Tebboune called for a review of the agricultural guidance law, including mechanisms for organizing and regulating agricultural production. He advocated for a strategy focused on reducing imports without creating market shortages, encouraging the establishment of specialized cooperatives, particularly with the new incentives offered by the state. The President instructed the Minister of Agriculture to find immediate solutions to restore red and white meat production to levels that meet the needs of the national market.
