President Tebboune Appeals to Algerian Youth Abroad

Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has issued an appeal to young Algerians residing abroad, particularly those in precarious or irregular situations. The President addressed those who, according to him, were deliberately misled by individuals seeking to undermine the state’s credibility and exploit them against their own country.

According to a statement released following Sunday’s Council of Ministers meeting, President Tebboune stated that many of these young people had committed only minor offenses, such as fearing potential questioning by police or the national gendarmerie regarding public order matters. He asserted that certain entities sought to manipulate emigration statistics to tarnish Algeria’s image, inciting young people to flee the country illegally.

The President emphasized the plight of these young Algerians, now separated from their families and homeland, facing hardship and exploitation, with some even being used against their own nation. He argued that such circumstances are not worth the suffering, as they are vulnerable to exploitation by criminal organizations, potentially damaging their reputations both abroad and at home.

The Council of Ministers, under the President’s leadership, has reached a consensus to regularize the status of these Algerian citizens, provided they pledge not to re-offend. Algerian consulates abroad will oversee the implementation of this decision, facilitating the return of these individuals to their homeland.

This initiative excludes those who have committed serious crimes such as bloodshed, drug trafficking, arms dealing, or those who have collaborated with foreign security agencies to harm Algeria. The government hopes this measure will allow these young citizens to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to Algerian society.
