LFP Announces Key Rulings on Suspensions, Transfers

Algiers, January 11, 2026 – The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has issued an important statement outlining key changes and clarifications regarding the administration of the remainder of the 2025-2026 football season. These decisions aim to improve discipline and provide clubs with renewed momentum ahead of the crucial second half of the league and the Algerian Cup competition.

The LFP has decided to nullify all yellow cards for players who have accumulated three or fewer cautions up to Round 15. This measure offers a clean slate for many players, allowing them to compete without the immediate threat of suspension.

However, the league is taking a stricter stance on persistent offenders. Any player who receives a fourth yellow card will automatically be suspended for one match. This suspension will be immediately enforced, and players will not benefit from any amnesty or revocation of penalties.

The statement further clarifies that the Round of 16 matches of the Algerian Cup will serve as a critical turning point. The accumulation of yellow cards for the second half of the season will officially begin from this stage. Similarly, the calculation of player performance bonuses will commence, continuing until the end of the season. Furthermore, new players acquired during the winter transfer window will be eligible to participate officially from this round onward.

The LFP has also issued a stern warning regarding the domestic transfer market. New regulations stipulate that any player registered on the match sheet (whether in the Cup’s Round of 16, the Super Cup final, or any league match in the second half of the season) will permanently forfeit their right to transfer to another club within Algeria during the same season. This measure compels clubs and players to finalize their decisions before player names are submitted on the official match sheet.

This statement aligns with Circular No. 64 issued by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) on November 27, 2025, which regulates the second registration periods, ensuring club stability and addressing potential legal loopholes that may arise during the winter transfer window. The LFP aims to maintain fair play and competitive balance throughout the remainder of the season.
