National Team Returns Home After AFCON 2025 Exit

The Algerian national football team is scheduled to arrive back in Algiers this evening, Sunday, at 2:00 PM local time. A private flight has been arranged to transport the players and accompanying staff following their exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 tournament.

Les Verts’ campaign concluded in the quarter-finals after a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria. The Algerian Football Federation, under the leadership of President Walid Sadi, organized the special flight as a gesture of appreciation for the players’ efforts and the media’s coverage throughout the competition.

The aim is to ensure a comfortable and safe return for both the team and the journalists after a demanding period. The national team’s participation in the continental tournament generated significant public and media interest.

Algeria successfully navigated the group stage, securing four consecutive victories against Sudan (3-0), Burkina Faso (1-0), Equatorial Guinea (3-1), and the Democratic Republic of Congo (1-0 after extra time). Despite the team’s strong performance in the initial stages, their journey was cut short by Nigeria.

The return of the team and media personnel marks the end of their AFCON 2025 journey. Attention will now turn to preparations for Algeria’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, scheduled from June 11th to July 19th. The team will be looking to build on their experiences in the AFCON tournament as they prepare for the global stage.

The focus now shifts to analyzing the team’s performance and identifying areas for improvement as they set their sights on the challenges ahead. The Algerian Football Federation is expected to announce plans for upcoming friendly matches and training camps in the near future.
