Khan Younis, Gaza – The Ministry of Interior in Gaza has announced the assassination of Lieutenant Colonel Mahmoud al-Astal, 40, the Director of Investigations for the Khan Younis police. Al-Astal was killed by gunfire from a vehicle that fled the scene in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, the assassination was carried out by “agents of the occupation.” Security services have launched an investigation into the incident and are actively pursuing the perpetrators. The Ministry of Interior did not release any further details regarding the identities of the assailants or their motives.
This incident follows the death of Ahmed Zamzam, an officer in the Ministry of Interior in Gaza, who was killed on December 14th. At that time, the Ministry stated that investigations revealed the involvement of collaborators with Israel in his assassination, which was carried out by gunfire in the Al-Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip.
The assassination of Lieutenant Colonel al-Astal marks a significant security challenge in the region, raising concerns about internal stability and the ongoing threat of external interference. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
