State Secretary Joins Algerian Community in Montpellier for Yennayer Celebration

State Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, participated remotely via video conference yesterday, Sunday, in the celebration commemorating the new Amazigh New Year, Yennayer. The event was organized by the Algerian Consulate in Montpellier in coordination with community organizations in the city.

During his address, the State Secretary explained that this event is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to dedicating a year of communication with the national community abroad. He highlighted that the program set by diplomatic and consular missions to celebrate the Amazigh New Year aims to constantly address the community’s cultural, linguistic, and identity concerns, reflecting their attachment to the motherland and the components of national identity.

Chaib emphasized the distinctive nature of this year’s celebration for the national community residing abroad, particularly through their participation in the sixth edition of the President of the Republic’s Prize for Amazigh Literature and Language. This participation is made possible by the fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the High Commission for Amazighity.

The State Secretary also highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to launch meaningful initiatives aimed at strengthening the community’s connection to the various components of the national identity. He reviewed the significant progress made by the state in promoting the Amazigh language as a fundamental pillar of the unifying national identity, in accordance with the instructions of the highest authorities in the country, who have consistently emphasized the importance of preserving and strengthening the components of national identity in all its dimensions. The government reaffirms its commitment to supporting and promoting Algerian culture abroad.
