An Algerian football supporter has been detained and imprisoned in Morocco, according to reports. The individual, identified as Abd Raouf Belkacemi, is facing legal proceedings initiated by the public prosecutor at the Rabat Court of First Instance. His trial is scheduled for this evening, Monday.
Belkacemi was initially arrested after a video surfaced online allegedly showing him desecrating the Moulay Hassan stadium. He was later released temporarily, with plans to travel to Marrakech to attend a quarter-final match. However, he was subsequently re-arrested and incarcerated pending the legal outcome of his case.
Reports indicate that Belkacemi is not the only Algerian fan facing legal trouble in Morocco following the Algeria-Nigeria match. Another supporter was reportedly arrested for allegedly tearing up Moroccan currency inside the stadium. Furthermore, an Algerian expatriate was detained at the airport, accused of verbally insulting residents of Marrakech after they were perceived to be supporting the Nigerian team during the game.
DZWatch will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as they become available.
