Sonelgaz Launches Major Power Grid Maintenance in Southern Algeria

Algiers – Sonelgaz, the national electricity and gas company, has initiated a comprehensive maintenance operation targeting the isolated power grid across several southern provinces. The initiative aims to ensure the continuity and quality of electricity service in these regions, according to a statement released by the company on Monday.

A technical convoy comprising specialized teams from nine distribution directorates departed from Setif province last Saturday, heading towards the southern wilayas to carry out vital maintenance and support work on the electrical network. The convoy includes technical personnel from the distribution directorates of Skikda, Setif, Souk Ahras, Tebessa, Oum El Bouaghi, Mila, Annaba, Bejaia, and Batna, with each directorate contributing ten specialists from various fields.

To facilitate the operation, 27 vehicles have been deployed, including 18 four-wheel-drive vehicles and nine light trucks. The maintenance campaign is expected to last for 15 days, during which various maintenance tasks will be carried out. These tasks will primarily focus on medium and low-voltage networks, 30 kV lines, electrical transformers, and other electrical installations.

The operation will cover the provinces of Ouargla, specifically the border district of El Borma, as well as the provinces of El Menia, Djanet, Illizi, Tamanrasset, and In Guezzam. This proactive approach seeks to enhance the reliability of the electricity grid and improve the quality of service provided to citizens in the southern regions. Sonelgaz aims to preemptively address potential issues and ensure a stable power supply for residents and businesses in these areas.
