Laghouat, Algeria – Authorities in Laghouat have seized a significant quantity of foreign cigarettes in a coordinated anti-smuggling operation. The operation, conducted by agents of the Regional Specialized Anti-Smuggling Squad in Laghouat, in collaboration with the Illicit Drug Trafficking Unit and members of the Judicial Police, resulted in the confiscation of 31,000 cartons of foreign cigarettes.
According to a statement, the seized cigarettes were discovered aboard a truck. The operation led to the impoundment of the vehicle and the arrest of the individual involved.
This successful operation underscores the commitment of Algerian Customs, in coordination with various state agencies, to implementing the national strategy for combating smuggling and organized crime. It also reflects the readiness and vigilance of the various services involved in maintaining law and order and protecting the national economy.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the origin and destination of the smuggled cigarettes.
