Algeria is set to host an international conference this Wednesday and Thursday, bringing together legal experts from around the world to discuss the prosecution of the Israeli regime in international courts for its crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza, Algerian International Conference on Israeli Regime War Crimes.

According to ISNA, as reported by the trans-regional newspaper Ray Al-Youm, various legal figures and representatives from international legal institutions are arriving in Algeria to participate in the conference scheduled for November 29 and 30. The conference, titled “Justice for the Palestinian Nation,” aims to establish principles for the trial and prosecution of leaders of the Israeli regime in the International Criminal Court and other national courts for their war crimes in Gaza.

This initiative, prompted by the Algerian Judges Union and in collaboration with the National Union of Algerian Lawyers, comes after a recent request by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He called for the pursuit of the Israeli regime in international courts to end its impunity for crimes committed against Palestinians.

Starting from Sunday evening, Algeria has been hosting delegations participating in the upcoming conference. The first arrivals included representatives from Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon, comprising judges, lawyers, and legal experts. More legal figures and experts from other countries are expected to arrive in Algeria in the next two days.

Gilles Devers, a French lawyer who recently formed a group of 500 lawyers worldwide to support Palestinians in the International Criminal Court regarding the mass killings and war crimes of the Israeli regime in Gaza, is set to arrive in Algeria on Tuesday. Devers and his team previously submitted a petition signed by 100 lawyers to ensure that the crimes of the Israeli regime in Gaza are included in the current Palestinian file at the International Criminal Court.

Ibrahim Tayari, President of the National Union of Algerian Lawyers, stated in a radio interview that the conference will consist of several workshops. The most important of these will focus on documenting crimes committed against Palestinians in Gaza and pursuing these crimes in courts based on the principle of universal jurisdiction, allowing for the prosecution of the Israeli regime’s leaders.

President Tebboune, in a recent speech at the Supreme Court in Algeria’s capital, urged legal experts and institutions to prosecute the Israeli regime in the International Criminal Court for its crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip. He emphasized this as the only way to end the regime’s decades-long escape from punishment for its crimes against Palestinians.

Tebboune highlighted the need for international prosecution as the only refuge for Palestinian brothers to achieve international justice and reclaim their legitimate rights to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. He also questioned the state of justice in the world and the rights of oppressed nations, particularly the Palestinian people. In response to the atrocities in Gaza, he condemned the horrific killings by the occupying forces, which continue amidst the appalling silence of the international community, collapsing all religious, moral, and human values.
