Government Task Force to Monitor Market, Stabilize Prices

Algiers, January 13, 2026 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib chaired an inter-ministerial council meeting today dedicated to examining specific measures for the continuous and regular supply of the national market with all food products, particularly those of wide consumption, as well as vegetables, fruits, meat, and poultry.

The meeting, held in preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH/2026, was convened based on the instructions of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.

Discussions focused on practical measures to ensure the availability of cash, especially at Algeria Post offices and ATMs. The government aims to prevent shortages and facilitate transactions during the increased economic activity expected during Ramadan.

To further ensure market stability, a multi-sectoral committee has been established within the Prime Minister’s office. This committee will be responsible for continuously monitoring the supply of food products to the national market and ensuring price stability throughout the month of Ramadan.

The committee’s mandate includes coordinating between various ministries and relevant stakeholders to proactively address any potential disruptions to the supply chain. The ultimate goal is to guarantee that citizens have access to essential goods at affordable prices during this important religious period.

The government’s commitment to ensuring a stable and well-supplied market reflects its broader efforts to improve the living standards of its citizens and maintain social peace. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of close collaboration between all relevant actors to achieve these objectives.
