Algiers, January 13, 2026 – Algerian authorities have dealt a significant blow to organized crime, seizing a massive haul of drugs and apprehending multiple suspects in a series of coordinated operations across the country last week.
The Central Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS) successfully dismantled three organized criminal networks, leading to the arrest of 14 individuals, including one woman. The operations, conducted under the supervision of relevant judicial authorities, targeted drug trafficking activities in multiple regions.
According to a statement released by the National Security Directorate, the first operation, executed in a western province, resulted in the seizure of 120 kilograms of processed cannabis (locally known as ‘Kif’). The drugs were meticulously concealed within specially modified compartments in the internal structure of a commercial vehicle, highlighting the sophistication of the trafficking operation.
In a separate and equally significant operation in Algiers, authorities confiscated 38 kilograms of cocaine, further disrupting drug supply chains within the capital. A third operation successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle psychotropic substances into a northern province, leading to the seizure of 59,340 capsules of ‘Pregabalin’.
The combined operations also resulted in the recovery of seven vehicles of various makes and models, all believed to have been used in connection with the criminal activities. The arrested individuals have been presented before the public prosecutors at the specialized penal division in Oran, and the courts of Koléa in Tipaza, and Dar El Beida in Algiers.
These successful operations underscore the ongoing commitment of Algerian law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and organized crime across the nation.
