Joint detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP), in coordination with security services, successfully thwarted attempts to smuggle over 300 kilograms of treated cannabis across the border with Morocco last week. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking within the country.
According to an operational report released Wednesday, January 14, 2026, these operations, conducted across various military districts, reflect the high level of professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of the Algerian armed forces throughout the national territory.
In the fight against terrorism, ANP detachments apprehended five individuals providing support to terrorist groups during separate operations across the country. Further details regarding these arrests were not immediately available.
The anti-drug operations resulted in the arrest of 40 drug traffickers. In addition to the seized cannabis, authorities also confiscated 34.7 kilograms of cocaine and 218,222 psychotropic tablets. The ongoing efforts demonstrate a commitment to combating the scourge of drug trafficking within Algeria.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and In Amenas, ANP detachments apprehended 200 individuals and seized 36 vehicles, 132 generators, and 107 jackhammers. Quantities of raw gold mixture, stones, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations were also confiscated. Furthermore, 12 individuals were arrested, and authorities seized one FMPK submachine gun, three Kalashnikov submachine guns, four hunting rifles, and 33,050 liters of fuel intended for smuggling during separate operations.
Separately, coast guard units foiled illegal emigration attempts along the national coastline, rescuing 71 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Authorities also apprehended 205 illegal immigrants of various nationalities across the national territory. These operations underscore the commitment to border security and humanitarian efforts.
