Algeria’s Oil Production Climbs for Eighth Consecutive Month

Algeria’s crude oil production continued its upward trajectory in December 2025, marking the eighth consecutive month of growth. According to a recent OPEC report, the nation’s output increased by 6,000 barrels per day (bpd) compared to November.

This increase pushed Algeria’s production to its highest level in over two and a half years, nearing the 973,000 bpd mark recorded in May 2023.

Annual Average Production Rises

Throughout 2025, Algeria’s average oil production reached 933,000 bpd, a significant increase from the 907,000 bpd recorded in the previous year. This growth reflects the country’s adherence to OPEC+ alliance production plans.

This surge is part of the broader OPEC+ strategy, which includes voluntary production cuts. Member states concluded the reinstatement of 2.2 million bpd cuts in September 2025 and began phasing out the second cut of 1.65 million bpd in October, with production levels expected to remain stable during the first quarter of 2026.

Algeria Nears Targeted Quota

Data indicates that Algeria’s production reached 970,000 bpd in December 2025, compared to 964,000 bpd in November. This puts Algeria very close to its official target quota of 971,000 bpd, a level expected to remain stable until the end of March 2026.

These production levels demonstrate Algeria’s commitment to its obligations under the OPEC+ policy, which aims to reduce production by 2 million bpd. This policy, initiated nearly three years ago, is set to continue until the end of December 2026.

OPEC+ and Global Production

The report also revealed that total OPEC+ production decreased to 42.83 million bpd in December, compared to 43.06 million bpd in November. Conversely, OPEC production rose to 28.56 million bpd from 28.45 million bpd in the previous month. Saudi Arabia’s output exceeded 10.07 million bpd, while Iraq produced 4.11 million bpd.
