Sonatrach’s Scientific and Technical Council Welcomes New Members

Sonatrach, Algeria’s national oil company, recently oversaw the inauguration of new members to its Scientific and Technical Council. The ceremony, held at the headquarters under the supervision of Sonatrach’s CEO Rachid Hachichi, marks a significant step in reinforcing the company’s commitment to scientific and technological advancement. The newly formed council, appointed for a three-year term, comprises 20 permanent members. Among them is Belkacem Maouiouf, the Vice President in charge of Marketing activities, representing the CEO. Another notable member is Mustapha Mohamed Benamara, the Central Director of Research and Development.

In addition to permanent members from Sonatrach’s internal structures, universities, and research centers, the council includes 10 substitute members and two honorary members. These honorary positions are held by Professor Jabbar El Tayeb, a distinguished professor at Oklahoma University in reservoir engineering and CEO of Op-Tech, and Professor Nourredine Melikechi, Dean of the Kennedy College at the University of Delaware, USA, and a research engineer at NASA.

The council serves as an advisory body, ensuring the alignment of Sonatrach’s scientific policies and offering insights and recommendations on all aspects related to research and development within the company. Specifically, the council is entrusted with approving the scientific strategy and a portfolio of scientific and technological projects for the Central Directorate of Research and Development at Sonatrach. It also plays a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating their performance and promoting the integration of available research capabilities across various structures of Sonatrach.
