The National Gendarmerie has successfully dismantled an international criminal network involved in the illicit trade and speculation of vehicles, specifically the locally manufactured “Fiat Doblo Panorama.” The operation, conducted in the Tipaza province, resulted in the arrest of 13 individuals suspected of being members of the network.
According to a statement released by the Gendarmerie, the arrested individuals belong to a network comprising both individuals and entities of various nationalities. This network was allegedly engaged in marketing vehicles in violation of established regulations. The operation was the culmination of a thorough investigation initiated by the Tipaza Search and Investigation Unit, prompted by credible information regarding irregularities and manipulations in the distribution of “Fiat Doblo Panorama” vehicles. This led to the exposure of fraudulent methods employed by the network to circumvent oversight.
Reports indicate that the network was importing new vehicles and those less than three years old without obtaining the necessary legal permits and approvals. The organization allegedly exploited companies established both within Algeria and abroad, all under their control, to evade scrutiny, smuggle currency, and commit tax evasion.
The operation led to the seizure of 61 vehicles of various makes and models, along with 5,990,000 Algerian dinars, 700 euros, mobile phones, computer equipment, two money counting machines, company and personal seals, and foreign license plates.
The National Gendarmerie has confirmed that investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities to identify all potential accomplices and uncover the full extent of the network, both within Algeria and internationally.
