Algeria Commemorates 70th Anniversary of Iffri Lebleh Battle

Batna, Algeria – Algeria solemnly commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Iffri Lebleh, a pivotal event in the nation’s struggle for independence. The commemoration took place in Tekout, Batna province, nestled in the heart of the Aurès Mountains, a region synonymous with resistance and sacrifice.

The event, held under the auspices of the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Rights Holders, served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by Algerian freedom fighters. Karim Belhaddad, Chief of Staff of the Ministry, representing Minister Abdelmalek Tachrift, joined the Governor of Batna and representatives of the revolutionary family in honoring this significant historical milestone.

The commemoration began at the actual site of the battle in the Ghassira municipality of Tekout. The national anthem was played, and prayers were offered for the souls of the fallen martyrs in an atmosphere of reverence and pride.

A highlight of the event was the inauguration of a commemorative mural, dubbed “Hillock of Victory,” bearing the names of the martyrs of the Battle of Iffri Lebleh. This mural serves as an open-air museum, documenting their heroic deeds and immortalizing their sacrifices for the liberation of Algeria. It will stand as a testament for future generations.

Furthermore, a national conference entitled “The Battle of Iffri Lebleh: Military Events in National Memory and Historical Dimensions” was inaugurated at the Ghassira municipality conference hall. Academics and historians specializing in the period participated in the conference.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister, Belhaddad emphasized that commemorating this anniversary in the Aurès region is a source of immense pride, highlighting the battles fought by the National Liberation Army under the leadership of the iconic martyr Mostefa Ben Boulaïd. These battles, he stated, exemplified unwavering resilience in the face of colonialism. He added that the battles of Iffri Lebleh and Ghar Ali Ou Aissa presented a formidable challenge during the revolution and their heroism will forever be etched in the national memory. He reaffirmed the commitment to safeguarding the nation founded on the values of sacrifice and dedication.

The commemoration underscored Algeria’s unwavering commitment to honoring its history and the sacrifices of its heroes.
