Constantine: 18 Arrested in Neighborhood Gang Crackdown

Constantine, Algeria – Authorities in Constantine have dismantled a neighborhood gang comprising 18 individuals following a violent public disturbance. Police in El Khroub apprehended the suspects, who are accused of engaging in a large-scale brawl that disrupted public order, according to a statement released by the Constantine Police Department.

Law enforcement responded to reports of a conflict between two groups in El Khroub, where edged weapons and trained dogs were allegedly used. Upon arrival, officers arrested 18 individuals involved in the altercation, many of whom have prior criminal records. During the operation, police seized seven bladed weapons, including large knives and daggers, as well as six trained dogs reportedly used for intimidation and fighting.

Following a thorough investigation, the suspects were presented before the Public Prosecutor at the El Khroub Court. They face charges related to the formation and organization of a neighborhood gang, recruitment of individuals to incite fear and terrorize citizens, endanger lives and property, assault with bladed weapons and trained dogs, and the use of a vehicle to facilitate escape.

The arrest underscores ongoing efforts to combat gang-related activity and maintain public safety in Constantine. Authorities have vowed to continue their crackdown on criminal elements to ensure the security and well-being of residents.
