Algeria’s Prime Minister, Sifi Gherb, convened a meeting today with representatives from the National Union of Taxi Drivers, alongside the Ministers of Interior, Local Authorities, Transport, and Domestic Trade.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Gherb emphasized the significant attention President Abdelmadjid Tebboune gives to the transport sector. He highlighted its strategic importance to the nation and its vital role in ensuring continuous public service.
The Prime Minister announced the launch of focused workshops, guided by a specific timeline, aimed at addressing various professional and social issues within the sector. These workshops seek to resolve long-standing challenges facing taxi drivers and the industry as a whole.
“I am confident that the transport sector is on the cusp of a qualitative leap,” stated Gherb, expressing optimism for the future. He believes the upcoming changes will improve working conditions for professionals and enhance the quality of service provided to citizens. He also acknowledged the professionalism of those working in the sector and their crucial role in maintaining this essential public service.
The National Union of Taxi Drivers welcomed the meeting, viewing it as a step towards strengthening trust between state institutions and transport professionals, particularly taxi drivers. The Union affirmed its commitment to actively and responsibly participating in any serious reform efforts, ultimately serving the interests of its members and maintaining the stability of the sector.
