Algiers, Algeria – The much-anticipated winter sales season has officially begun across Algeria today, Sunday. This initiative aims to provide citizens with access to discounted prices on a wide range of goods, bolstering purchasing power and stimulating commercial activity nationwide.
The launch was inaugurated at the Marina Mall in Algiers, with the presence of Noureddine Hrirdi, Central Director at the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Regulation of the National Market, alongside Moumen Hussein, Regional Director of Commerce for the Algiers region.
These special sales will continue through the holy month of Ramadan and extend until Eid al-Fitr, offering a prolonged period for shoppers to take advantage of reduced prices.
The discounts apply to a diverse selection of consumer goods, including clothing, footwear, and household appliances, and are available in all provinces throughout the country. Participating retailers are obligated to adhere to established legal and regulatory frameworks, particularly regarding the clear and transparent advertising of discounts. This includes prominently displaying prices both before and after the reduction, along with a clear indication of the percentage discount applied.
Noureddine Hrirdi emphasized that this initiative aligns with the directives of the Minister of the sector, Amel Abdel Latif, aimed at supporting consumer purchasing power, ensuring the availability of goods, and promoting transparency in commercial transactions. He also affirmed that commercial control agents across the country are monitoring compliance with the terms of the sales. He encouraged economic operators to actively participate in this initiative.
Sales with discounts are a regulated activity governed by Executive Decree No. 06-215 of June 18, 2006, which defines the conditions and procedures for sales with discounts and promotional sales, as well as cases of stock liquidation and sales outside commercial premises.
The sales with discounts are opened twice a year, during the summer (July – August) and during the winter (January – February), where each period lasts six consecutive weeks, the dates of which are determined by a decision of the governor of the province. Traders wishing to benefit from this operation must submit a preliminary file to the provincial trade directorates, including an extract from the commercial register and a list of the goods concerned by the discount.
