Algiers, Algeria – Algeria is deepening its technological partnership with Huawei to bolster its energy transition efforts. The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, received a high-level delegation from the Chinese technology giant Huawei on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the ministry headquarters.
The meeting underscores Algeria’s commitment to expanding international collaborations in strategic sectors. Discussions focused on exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation in energy and modern technologies. The Huawei delegation was led by Li Xin, the company’s General Manager for North, West, and Central Africa.
Key areas of discussion centered on collaboration between the Algerian energy sector and Huawei, particularly in developing technological solutions related to traditional energy sources, new and renewable energies, and supporting energy transition and digitization programs. Minister Adjjal, emphasized the deep-rooted historical ties between Algeria and China, highlighting the strength of bilateral economic partnerships, evidenced by the significant presence of Chinese companies in the Algerian market.
The Minister also stressed that Algeria offers a stimulating economic environment for foreign investment, particularly in the energy and renewable energy sectors. He underscored the importance of training and knowledge transfer, considering it a strategic priority for the sector. Algeria aims to leverage China’s proven experience in project execution and commitment fulfillment. Li Xin expressed Huawei’s interest in deepening its partnership with Algeria, praising the reforms and investment opportunities now available to foreign partners. He affirmed the company’s readiness to support Algeria in utilizing modern technologies to develop its energy sector and ensure the smooth implementation of its energy transition program.
The two parties agreed to hold a joint technical meeting comprising experts from the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies and Huawei to examine practical proposals. This partnership signals a significant step towards Algeria’s ambitious energy goals.
