Algeria Boosts Energy Cooperation with Huawei

Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjjal, recently met with a delegation from the Chinese tech giant Huawei, led by Li Xin, President of Huawei for the North, West, and Central Africa region. The meeting focused on exploring avenues for collaboration and partnership in the fields of energy and renewable energy.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, included senior officials from both the Ministry and Huawei, a company specializing in telecommunications and consumer electronics. The discussion is part of Algeria’s broader strategy to strengthen international cooperation and expand its economic partnerships.

During the meeting, both parties explored potential collaborations between the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, its various agencies, and Huawei, particularly in developing technological solutions for energy and new and renewable energy sectors. Minister Adjjal emphasized the strong historical ties between Algeria and China, highlighting the robust economic partnerships evident in the significant presence of Chinese companies in the Algerian market.

He affirmed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening these relationships, particularly given the attractive economic climate for foreign investment and the promising opportunities within the energy and renewable energy sectors. The Minister stressed the importance of training and knowledge transfer, considering them a priority for the sector. He also acknowledged China’s reliable expertise in project implementation and the positive results achieved by Chinese companies in the Algerian market.

Li Xin expressed Huawei’s desire to deepen its partnership with Algeria, praising the significant opportunities the country offers to its foreign partners. He affirmed Huawei’s commitment to playing a key role in developing the use of technology in the energy sector and ensuring the success of Algeria’s energy transition program.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to hold a joint meeting involving experts from the Ministry and Huawei to examine the proposals presented and identify priority areas for partnership, paving the way for appropriate decisions and the structuring of future projects.

This collaboration signifies a major step towards integrating advanced technology into Algeria’s energy sector, potentially leading to more efficient and sustainable energy solutions.
