Athens, Greece – Algeria and Greece have reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering bilateral relations during the third session of the Joint Algerian-Greek Committee, held in Athens on January 20, 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, and Harry Theocharis, the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for Economic Diplomacy and the Promotion of the Hellenic Republic.
The session served as a platform to evaluate existing cooperation and explore avenues for future development across various key sectors. These included energy and renewable energy, justice, agriculture, culture, tourism, communication, modern technologies, start-ups, sports, and transportation. Discussions also encompassed pressing regional and international issues, the prospects of Algeria’s partnership with the European Union, and strengthening multilateral coordination to serve the mutual interests of both nations.
The meeting culminated in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding covering areas such as diplomatic training, sports, communication, national archives, and air services. This demonstrates a shared political will to elevate bilateral relations to a more comprehensive and effective level.
On the sidelines of the committee meeting, Secretary of State Chaib held a series of bilateral meetings with Greek government officials and senior leaders. These discussions focused on deepening consultation and exchanging views on expanding cooperation and strengthening the partnership between Algeria and Greece across diverse fields.
This session underscores the commitment of both nations to foster a stronger and more dynamic partnership, benefiting their respective economies and strengthening their collaboration on regional and global issues.
