Algiers, January 21, 2026 – A significant agreement has been forged between the Ministry of Environment and Quality of Life and the General Directorate of National Security, signaling a strengthened commitment to environmental protection across the nation. The agreement was finalized during a dedicated study day held at the Ali Tounsi Higher Police School.
The Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kawthar Krikou, alongside the Director-General of National Security, Ali Badaoui, presided over the opening of the event, which centered on the legal and regulatory framework underpinning environmental protection. The study day featured in-depth discussions on national environmental legislation and the mechanisms for its effective implementation.
Emphasis was placed on the crucial role of National Security in safeguarding the environment and contributing to sustainable development. Speakers highlighted the alignment of national laws with Algeria’s international commitments, particularly those related to biodiversity, climate change, and natural reserves.
The culmination of the event was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry and the General Directorate of National Security. This agreement establishes an institutional framework for coordination and collaboration in environmental conservation and protection. It aims to enhance prevention efforts and effectively combat various environmental crimes. The agreement also includes provisions for supporting training, awareness campaigns, and environmental education programs, ultimately strengthening the practical application of environmental laws.
