Family of Five Perishes in Skikda Gas Poisoning Incident

A tragic incident in Skikda province has claimed the lives of five members of a single family due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The Civil Protection services reported the fatalities occurred in a residence located in the Mohamed Zibouh neighborhood of Ain Bouziane municipality.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:30 AM local time on Friday following reports of a gas leak emanating from a domestic heating appliance. Upon arrival, they discovered the family had succumbed to the effects of the deadly gas.

According to Civil Protection officials, the victims included two adult males, two adult females, and one child. All five individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies have been transferred to the morgue at the local hospital for further examination.

Carbon monoxide poisoning remains a significant public health concern, particularly during the colder months when heating appliances are in increased use. Authorities repeatedly urge citizens to ensure proper ventilation and to regularly maintain their heating systems to prevent such tragedies. Faulty or poorly maintained appliances can release lethal levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas that is difficult to detect.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with improper heating practices and the critical importance of adhering to safety guidelines. An investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the gas leak and whether any negligence contributed to the fatal outcome.
