Government Delegation Inspects Western Mining Railway Project

A high-level government delegation, led by the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transportation, Said Saayoud, conducted a working visit to Tindouf province to assess the readiness of the Western Mining Railway project connecting Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet. The project is crucial for the exploitation of mineral resources in the region.

The delegation included key government figures, highlighting the importance of this initiative. Among those present were the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab; the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellouli; the Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries, Houria Meddahi; and the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons in charge of Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer. The Director-General of National Security and the Director-General of Civil Protection also participated in the inspection.

The visit underscores the government’s commitment to developing the mining sector and infrastructure in the region. The Western Mining Railway is expected to significantly boost economic activity by facilitating the transportation of iron ore from Gara Djebilet, one of the largest iron ore deposits in the world. This project is a key component of the national strategy to diversify the economy and reduce reliance on hydrocarbons.
