Maduro’s Son Accuses US of Kidnapping Parents, Appeals for Release

In a dramatic appeal, Nicolas Maduro Jr., son of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, has called for the immediate release of his parents, alleging they were abducted by the United States and transported to New York. The younger Maduro, a member of the Venezuelan National Assembly, delivered a message to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, accusing Washington of carrying out an “armed act” against Venezuela.

According to Maduro Jr.’s statement, the alleged abduction took place on January 3, 2026. He claims that President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores were taken against their will to New York City.

The message conveyed by Maduro’s son further alleges that the President sustained injuries during the transfer and was seen walking with difficulty, his hands and feet bound. The First Lady, according to the statement, was also injured during the alleged abduction and is being treated as a high-risk prisoner.

Maduro Jr. placed full responsibility for his parents’ safety on the United States, expressing his fervent hope for their return to Venezuela. “I want to embrace my father again,” he stated, adding his conviction that a massive welcome rally would be held upon President Maduro’s return.

These accusations follow reports of a US military action in Venezuela earlier this month. The reported action resulted in casualties and the apprehension of the Venezuelan President and his wife. Following the event, reports indicated that the US would oversee Venezuela’s affairs during a transitional period, with US companies slated to invest in the country’s oil sector.

During initial court proceedings in New York, President Maduro reportedly rejected charges of leading a corrupt government and colluding with drug traffickers, declaring himself a “prisoner of war.” Meanwhile, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has assumed the role of interim president, having been sworn in by the Venezuelan parliament on January 5th.
