Jelfa, Algeria – Tragedy struck the town of Hassi Fedoul in the Benhar municipality, El Birine district, Jelfa province, as two individuals succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning on January 24, 2026.
The incident, stemming from a faulty wood-burning stove, resulted in the emission of deadly carbon monoxide gas within a residential dwelling. Authorities were alerted to the scene, but unfortunately, first responders were unable to revive the victims.
According to a statement released by the Civil Protection services, emergency teams were dispatched to the location at 2:05 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered the two victims and immediately transported them to the morgue at the local hospital.
Carbon monoxide poisoning remains a significant public health concern, particularly during the colder months when the use of heating appliances increases. Experts urge residents to ensure proper ventilation when using wood-burning stoves, gas heaters, and other fuel-burning devices.
