Key Outcomes from Today’s Council of Ministers Meeting

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, presided over a Council of Ministers meeting today focusing on key economic development projects. Discussions centered on the launch of the Oued Amizour zinc and lead mine and the progress of the mining railway project connecting Bled El Hadba, Oued El Kebrit, and the port of Annaba, crucial for transporting phosphate and fertilizers.

Following the presentation of the agenda and a summary of the government’s activities over the past two weeks by the Prime Minister, President Tebboune issued a series of directives.

The President instructed the Prime Minister to ensure diligent monitoring of the implementation of decisions made by the Council of Ministers and the government on the ground.

President Tebboune approved financial support for Algerian pilgrims this year, reducing the total cost from 92 million centimes to 82 million centimes, a reduction of 10 million centimes per pilgrim.

Oued Amizour Zinc and Lead Mine:

The President emphasized the critical need to launch this promising economic project by March 2026. He highlighted its potential to create jobs and generate economic benefits for the region and Algeria as a whole.

Mining Railway Project (Bled El Hadba – Oued El Kebrit – Annaba):

President Tebboune affirmed that the state’s investment in the mining sector aims to establish new pillars and resources for the national economy in the future, benefiting generations to come.

He instructed the Minister of Public Works to submit a monthly progress report on the project. He stressed the importance of completing the works by the end of 2026 and commencing operations in the first quarter of 2027 at the latest, with the goal of increasing Algeria’s fertilizer production capacity.

The President directed the government to monitor the project daily, overcome any obstacles, and accelerate the work pace continuously.

Mining Quay at the Port of Annaba Expansion:

President Tebboune ordered coordination between the sectors of Public Works, Interior, Transport, and the foreign partner to accelerate the project and complete it by the end of 2026, as it is a key component of the economic diversification strategy and the effort to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons.

Roadmap for the Fishing Sector 2026:

President Tebboune emphasized that developing the fishing and aquaculture sector is a national requirement and a priority, given its importance in strengthening food security. He called for increased efforts to boost production.
