Algerian Energy Minister Arrives in Niger for High-Level Talks

Niamey, Niger – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, was received today in Niamey by the Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, who also serves as the Minister of Economy and Finance.

According to a statement, the meeting included the President and CEO of Sonatrach, Nordine Daoudi, the General Manager of Sonatrach International (SIPEX), Chérif Bouarara, as well as ministry officials and representatives from the Algerian embassy in Niamey.

Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, with a specific focus on the oil and gas industry. Several members of the Nigerien government were present, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Minister of Mines, the Minister of Energy, and the Minister of Petroleum.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments regarding Sonatrach’s exploration project in the Kafra block in northern Niger. They explored ways to enhance coordination between Sonatrach and the National Nigerien Oil Company (SONIDEP) to ensure the achievement of shared objectives.

Furthermore, the meeting provided an opportunity to address the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project. Both parties reaffirmed the strategic importance of this project at the regional, African, and international levels, emphasizing its pivotal role in supporting the social and economic development of transit countries. The project is expected to significantly boost energy security and economic growth across the region.

This visit underscores the commitment of both Algeria and Niger to deepening their partnership in the energy sector and working together to unlock the potential of their natural resources for the benefit of their respective populations.
