Police and Forensic Medicine Unite to Enhance Criminal Investigations

Algiers, January 26, 2026 – A significant agreement was signed today at the Directorate of Judicial Police headquarters, aimed at strengthening the scientific training of judicial police investigators. The framework agreement, between the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), represented by the Central Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police, and the Ministry of Health, represented by the Forensic Medicine Department of the Mustapha University Hospital Center (CHU), seeks to enhance coordination and collaboration in disaster victim identification and support training programs for officers and investigators specialized in criminal investigation.

The agreement was signed by Police Inspector General Mourad Zenati, Director of the Judicial Police at the DGSN, and Dr. Dihia Khaled, Director General of the Mustapha CHU. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Rachid Belhadj, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department, Elias Rahal, Director General of Health Services and Hospital Reform, and senior officials from the National Security services.

The core objective of this agreement is to establish a robust framework for cooperation between the specialized services of the National Security’s Scientific and Technical Police and the Forensic Medicine Department of the Mustapha CHU. This collaboration will primarily focus on improving the identification of victims in mass casualty events. Furthermore, the agreement will bolster training and scientific research programs for judicial police officers and investigators specializing in the investigation of scientific evidence, clues, and material evidence during criminal investigations.

This initiative marks a crucial step towards modernizing criminal investigation techniques in Algeria, ensuring that law enforcement personnel are equipped with the latest scientific knowledge and tools to effectively solve complex cases. The partnership between the police and forensic medicine experts promises a more efficient and accurate approach to criminal justice.
