Algiers – Prime Minister Sifi Gherbi chaired a government meeting on Tuesday to discuss several key initiatives, including the modernization of agricultural cooperatives and the development of sector-specific roadmaps.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, the government is reviewing a draft executive decree aimed at reforming the legal and organizational framework for agricultural cooperatives. The goal is to enhance their role in agricultural development, food security, and the promotion of rural investment. This initiative seeks to streamline the process of establishing cooperatives by adopting a registration system, clarifying fundamental laws and internal governance, introducing variable social capital, allowing the creation of annexes, and strengthening the role of cooperative federations.
The government also initiated a review of draft roadmaps for 2026-2028 for various sectors, which will be presented to the Council of Ministers for approval. A presentation was given on the roadmap for the industrial sector, focusing on diversifying the national industry, increasing its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and strengthening the national ecosystem for industrial development.
The Prime Minister emphasized the guidelines for preparing sectoral roadmaps, which include identifying strategic axes based on a diagnosis of the current situation, establishing operational mechanisms and tools to implement the strategy and align its objectives with human and financial capabilities, ensuring inter-sectoral interaction of projects, and estimating implementation deadlines. These measures aim to bolster economic growth and diversification across key sectors.
