Ministry Suspends Educational Activities Due to Severe Weather

Algiers, January 27, 2026 – The Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs has announced the suspension of all educational and pedagogical activities in several of its affiliated institutions. This decision follows a severe weather warning issued by the National Meteorology Office, indicating a high risk of extremely strong winds.

According to the ministry’s statement, the weather bulletin forecasts winds reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. This period of intense weather is expected to last from the night of Tuesday, January 27, 2026, through Thursday, January 29, 2026.

As a result, educational activities are suspended for Wednesday, January 28th, and Thursday, January 29th. This suspension applies to psycho-pedagogical centers for children with mental and motor disabilities, schools for children with hearing and visual impairments, special education classes, and early childhood reception centers (nurseries) under the ministry’s supervision.

The measure affects institutions in the following provinces: Oran, Tlemcen, Ain Temouchent, Mostaganem, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, Tiaret, Tissemsilt, Mascara, Relizane, Naama, El Bayadh, Chlef, Tipaza, Algiers, Boumerdes, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Ain Defla, Blida, Medea, Bouira, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Setif, Mila, Guelma, Oum El Bouaghi, Khenchela, Tebessa, Biskra, M’Sila, Djelfa, Laghouat, Ouled Djellal, Souk Ahras, Batna, Constantine, Barika, Aflou, El Abiodh Sidi Cheikh, Ksar Chellala, Bou Saada, Messaad, Ain Oussera, Bir El Ater, El Kantara, Lariche, and Ksar El Boukhari.

This preventative measure aims to ensure the safety and well-being of children and staff, mitigating any potential risks associated with the anticipated severe weather conditions. The Ministry urges all concerned to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines during this period.
