Araghchi: Enrichment is a Right for Iran and Must Continue

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that negotiations with Washington on Friday were a good start and focused solely on the nuclear file, emphasizing that enrichment is a right for Iran and must continue.

In statements to Al Jazeera, Araghchi explained that there is currently no specific date for a second round of negotiations, but both Tehran and Washington believe it should be held soon.

Araghchi noted that the negotiations with Washington were indirect, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman, and addressed only the nuclear issue. He stressed that zero enrichment is outside the scope of negotiations for Iran, adding that the level of enrichment depends on national needs and that enriched uranium will not leave Iran.

Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian nuclear file will only be resolved through negotiations, adding that the missile issue is purely defensive.

He added that the path of negotiations must be free from any threats or pressure, expressing hope that this would be reflected in the American approach.

Araghchi called for building trust to conduct realistic negotiations to reach a fair outcome based on mutual gain, noting that Washington had relented and returned to negotiations after previously targeting Iran with military strikes.
