Kamal Belassel, the Director of Religious Affairs and Endowments for the Province of Algiers, announced the completion of preparations for the holy month of Ramadan. This includes an integrated program focused on preparing mosques and enhancing religious, cultural, and solidarity activities across various municipalities in the capital.
In a press statement made on the sidelines of an event opened by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, to commemorate National Martyr’s Day, Belassel explained that 876 mosques and 71 prayer rooms are ready to receive worshippers. He noted that Friday prayers will commence in five new mosques across the province as part of efforts to expand the religious infrastructure and bring services closer to citizens, particularly in new cities and neighborhoods.
The official added that opening additional prayer rooms is part of an initiative to enable residents to perform their religious rituals within their own neighborhoods without the need for travel. He also revealed that a group of elite reciters known for their mastery of the Holy Quran has been selected, with a commitment to the Warsh recitation style, which is the officially adopted standard in the country.
The Director of Religious Affairs further highlighted a broad religious, cultural, and intellectual program scheduled throughout Ramadan. This program includes activities, lectures, and seminars across mosques, in addition to events organized in coordination with public health institutions, cultural centers, and youth centers.
